Warning signs: the triangular German signs explained
1 min read · Updated on October 17, 2026
Warning signs are triangular, white with a red border, and warn of a spot where you need to pay extra attention.
How to recognise them
A triangle pointing upwards, red border, black symbol. Outside towns they usually stand 150–250 metres before the hazard.
Common warning signs
You’ll meet these often – also in Driving School Germany:
- Children
- Roadworks
- Animals crossing
- Bend to the left or right
- Traffic lights
- Junction with right before left
What to do?
Warning signs don’t directly forbid anything – they require you to drive more attentively and adjust your speed.
