Regulatory signs: orders and prohibitions at a glance
1 min read · Updated on October 17, 2026
Regulatory signs tell you what you must do or what’s forbidden. Ignoring them is an offence.
Prohibitions: round with a red border
For example speed limits, no entry, no trucks or no stopping.
Orders: round and blue
They prescribe a direction or use – such as “turn right”, “straight ahead”, “roundabout” or “cycle path”.
End of a prohibition
A grey or black-and-white sign with diagonal stripes lifts the prohibition again, e.g. “end of speed limit”.
